FLUX.1 Kontext Pro Has Been Superseded by FLUX.2 — Free Usage Guide
🚀 FLUX.2 is the current model
FLUX.1 Kontext Pro has been superseded by FLUX.2, Black Forest Labs' second-generation model. To use the current model, see the complete FLUX.2 guide →
What Was FLUX.1 Kontext Pro?
FLUX.1 Kontext Pro was an advanced multimodal image generation and editing model from Black Forest Labs. It let users create and modify images using both text and image inputs, enabling precise, context-aware generation and editing. Whether you were a designer, marketer, or content creator, it offered strong control over the creative process for its generation.
It has since been replaced by a substantially more capable successor.
Why Move to FLUX.2?
FLUX.2 is Black Forest Labs' second-generation model and a major upgrade over the entire FLUX.1 Kontext line (including both the dev and pro variants):
| Feature | FLUX.1 Kontext (Pro/dev) | FLUX.2 |
|---|---|---|
| Parameters | 12B | 32B |
| Image quality | Good | Significantly improved |
| Text + image input editing | Yes | Yes, more sophisticated |
| Text-to-image generation | Basic | Superior |
| Prompt upsampling | No | Yes |
Key reasons to switch:
- 2.5× more parameters (12B → 32B) — noticeably better quality and prompt adherence
- Better text rendering inside generated images
- Prompt upsampling turns short prompts into rich, detailed outputs
- Multi-image editing in a single workflow
- Same lineage as FLUX.1, so your prompting habits carry over

Still Need FLUX.1 Kontext Pro (Legacy)?
If you must stay on the legacy model — existing pipelines, specific licensing, or hardware limits — the original use cases are preserved below.
Legacy: Using FLUX.1 Kontext Pro
FLUX.1 Kontext was an advanced multimodal model that accepted both text and image inputs simultaneously, allowing context-aware image generation and editing. Typical workflows included:
- Provide a reference image plus a text instruction (e.g., "change the background to a beach").
- The model edits the image while preserving identity and context.
- Iterate with further text instructions.
It was available through select hosted endpoints and (for the dev variant) as an open-weight download under a Non-Commercial License.
⚠️ The legacy model receives no further updates. For any new project, use FLUX.2.
