Hetzner Cloud Pricing 2026: Plans, Traffic and Extra Costs
Hetzner Cloud Pricing 2026: What The Server Really Costs
Last reviewed: July 20, 2026. Hetzner displays prices according to location, currency and applicable tax. Use the official selector for the exact amount payable by your account.
Hetzner Cloud is often shortlisted for strong CPU, memory and storage value. A useful comparison, however, must include server location, plan architecture, public IP requirements, traffic, volumes, snapshots and VAT. A price copied from another country may not match your invoice.
Official references:
Plan Families
| Family | CPU allocation | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost-Optimized | Shared vCPU | Small sites, development, low-duty services | CPU performance can vary with shared use |
| Regular Performance | Shared vCPU | General web applications and balanced workloads | Costs more than the entry family |
| General Purpose | Dedicated vCPU | Databases, sustained compute and production services | Higher monthly floor |
Hetzner also offers architectures and plan names that vary by location. Compare software compatibility before choosing Arm, and compare the exact selected region rather than assuming every plan exists everywhere.
Why This Guide Does Not Publish One Universal Price Table
Hetzner's official selector can change the displayed amount based on server location, billing currency, account country and VAT. Plan availability and included traffic also differ. A static table that ignores these inputs gives false precision and becomes stale quickly.
For an accurate quote:
- Open the official Cloud page.
- Select the server location and plan family.
- Set the billing country or currency shown for your account.
- Add public IPs, volumes, snapshots, backups and load balancing.
- Confirm whether the displayed amount includes VAT.
This takes less time than correcting a deployment designed around the wrong regional price.
Shared Versus Dedicated vCPU
Shared vCPU plans are suitable for websites, staging systems, small APIs and workloads with short CPU bursts. They provide the lowest entry cost, but neighboring workloads can affect sustained performance.
Dedicated vCPU plans reserve CPU resources more predictably. Use them for busy databases, continuous workers, build systems and applications where variable CPU time creates measurable latency. Paying for dedicated CPU without a sustained workload usually reduces the value advantage.
Benchmark the application rather than relying only on vCPU count. CPU architecture, clock behavior, storage performance and memory limits can matter more than the headline number.
Traffic And Network Costs
Included traffic depends on the selected product and location. European and non-European locations may not use identical allowances or overage terms. Check the exact server card and current documentation before moving a download-heavy workload.
Estimate outbound traffic for:
- public downloads and media;
- container image pulls from your server;
- off-site backups;
- replication between locations;
- proxy, VPN or relay use.
Private-network traffic and public internet traffic are not interchangeable billing assumptions. Design the network first, then check each charged path.
IPv4, Volumes And Backups
Public IP Addresses
Do not assume a public IPv4 address is included in the base server figure. Choose IPv4, IPv6 or both according to actual reachability requirements, and include the selected IP resources in the checkout total.
Volumes
Cloud Volumes are billed separately from the server. They are useful for data that must survive server replacement, but unused or unattached volumes can continue generating charges. Include volume size and backup strategy in the monthly estimate.
Snapshots And Backups
Snapshots and automated backups consume separate storage or add-on budget. Define retention before enabling them. A small server with uncontrolled snapshots can accumulate a bill that is disproportionate to its compute price.
Hourly Billing And Deletion
Hetzner Cloud uses hourly billing with a monthly maximum for many resources. The monthly cap does not mean that powering off a server releases it. As long as the server exists and its resources remain allocated, billing can continue.
To stop charges, delete resources that are no longer needed and then audit:
- servers;
- public IP resources;
- volumes;
- snapshots and backups;
- load balancers.
Export required data before deletion because removing a server is not the same as temporarily stopping it.
VAT, Currency And Invoice Checks
The price visible to one buyer may include VAT while another buyer sees a net amount. Currency conversion by a card issuer can add another difference. Business tax treatment also depends on account and jurisdiction details.
Use the final checkout or account pricing view as the source of truth. Record whether tax is included when comparing Hetzner with a provider quoting tax-exclusive US-dollar prices.
When Hetzner Is A Good Fit
Hetzner is attractive when its regions are close to your users and you need strong resources for the price. It is less suitable when the required audience is far from available locations, a specific managed service is mandatory, or support and compliance requirements outweigh raw server value.
Compare Linode, DigitalOcean, Vultr and AWS Lightsail using the same workload and region assumptions.
Before You Buy
- Confirm location, architecture and plan availability.
- Check whether tax is included in the displayed price.
- Add IPv4, volumes, backups, snapshots and load balancing.
- Estimate region-specific outbound traffic.
- Verify application compatibility with the chosen CPU architecture.
- Delete test resources after benchmarking.
